My father just passed away. He knew that he was going down hill,
and he moved himself and my mother into an assisted care facility.
In preparation for the move, he got rid of lots of "stuff". My wife was down
there assisting with the packing / trashing / giving away. There were boxes
containing a few thousand photos that were not in any photo albums that my dad
thought no one would want. My wife picked them up and brought them back.
Among the photos - are hundreds of pictures my grandfather took in France during
and after WW1. I've scanned a couple hundred of them, but I've only scratched
the surface. AFAIK these have never been published.
Many of them are "tourist" shots of town squares, buildings, etc. Many are
battlefield pictures, with some famous names in the captions. I've run across
one or two from Flanders, and a dozen or so from Verdun... Here's one that has
no caption, showing what I believe are French troops in the trenches. .

There's one photo of a Tank with a gaping whole in the side and
the caption says its near Vimey Ridge. (see below)

There are lots of shots of aircraft, including one taken from an aircraft (there
can't have been many of those attempted in 1918!) and one of a plane going down
in flames - with the parachute visible far above the plane.
