Rob Williams

Born and brought up on the South coast of England near the city of Portsmouth. Famous for Nelson, HMS Victory and all things naval. Married to a non gamer although my two boys are just about getting to grips with some of the lighter games in my collection.

I have been a gamer for many years. Early games were your typical mass market fare such as Chess, Monopoly and kerplunk. Then along came risk and things started to get a bit serious. Dungeons & Dragons arrived when I was at school and it managed to tear me away from the ZX Spectrum in my bedroom. RPG's were pretty big for me going through school and college along with a huge amount of Games Workshop games, back when they made games that didn't require miniatures.

CCG's then followed with Magic at the forefront, although my favorite will always be Netrunner. Probably because I am a huge cyberpunk fan. Around this time I read an article about a game called Settlers of Catan and I managed to buy a copy from a local FLGS. It was in German but some English rules were found and the game became a hit with my group.

Then came the dark years of gaming. All gaming then stopped for a number of years, probably due to computer games and friends moving away, chasing my would be wife is probably a big reason as well.

Around September 2005 I heard about some games that sounded interesting, some friends had moved back so I started buying a few games to see how the hobby had changed. That was the start of an avalanche of gaming and getting involved in the hobby in general. Since then I have helped out writing for the IGUK blog http://www.iguk.co.uk/blog/ and joined up with a great local gaming group in Portsmouth. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/457.

When I am not gaming I would prefer to be in the Alps with my snowboard and friends or with my family having fun. Current favorite games are Battlestar Gallactica, Shogun, Thebes and Dominion.

On the geek you can find me as count-zero.
