Dice Tower Network Podcast: Every Night is Game Night

Every Night is Game Night is a weekly, 30-45 minute podcast about strategy and thematic games, with a special emphasis on cooperative and solo play. Every week, Anthony and Jason talk about the games they love - Anthony covers heavy strategy and Euro games, while Jason brings his passion for games with lots of theme and narrative. We do regular game reviews and frequently discuss a variety of topics in the board gaming world, ranging from serious to silly. We also bring you Kickstarter previews, as well as long form interviews with many of the most noteworthy names in the industry, including Matt Leacock, Ryan Laukat, Ignacy Trzewiczek, Scott Almes, Isaac Childres, and more!

We are happy to present to you our first Kickstarter Mega-Pod! If you've been following our Preview Series, you'll know that we cover lots of kickstarter projects while they are live. So it's very nice when the games actually deliver and we can talk about them!

This undertaking was so big that we had to enlist some help - Liz Davidson from Beyond Solitaire, as well as Jeremy Howard from Jambalaya Plays Games - https://jambalayaplaysgames.com/.

Herbaceous Sprouts is the third in a line of gorgeous small filler games from Dr. Steve Finn, Ed Baraf et. al. Both Herbaceous and Sunset Over Water were big hits for Pencil First Games, and now we have the third standalone game in that line.

Herbaceous Sprouts is a dice drafting and manipulation game that plays in about 20-30 minutes. Check out our interview with Ed to her how it plays, as well as how it compares to Sagrada and other dice manipulation games.

For anyone who has ever wanted us to "not hold back", so to speak, and give out some objectively bad reviews of games, this is the show for you! We tell you our reasons why you might want to avoid the Witcher Adventure Game (4:55), Witches of the Revolution (14:27), and Shipwrights of the North Sea (21:05). In the discussion at the back half of the podcast, we tell you about our approach to these kinds of reviews and why you haven't heard an episode like this from us before. Hopefully, we review nothing but good games going forward! (yeah, right...)

Out first repeat Preview Series guest! Way back in episode 6, Brady hopped on the show while he was on the road to Origins to talk about Street Masters. This week, his brother Adam joins him to talk about the follow up to Street Masters from Blacklist Games, Brook City. We get into the Modular Deck game system they are developing, how they wanted Brook City to evoke 80s cop games, mechanisms that make the different cops and criminals unique, and a lot more.

April 28th, 2018 was International Table Top Day, the once per year event where we celebrate board games, RPGs, and all things that bring people together around the table.

Jason spent the day at the Portal Gaming Store in Manchester, CT, where they held a 24-hour event for one of the best board gaming meetup communities in the country. Many games were played, three of which we fully review in this pod: -

-The Shipwreck Arcana (11:30)
-Herbaceous (25:35)
-Sunset Over Water (39:30)

This week, we chat about Gem Rush, a Victory Points Game from 2012 which is the latest to get the "Premiere Line" treatment. That means out with the pizza box and the sooty tokens, and in with a new, beautiful edition! We welcome Jeremy Lennert on to the show to talk about the new edition, what has changed from the first edition (and whether it's worth it for fans of the old edition to take a look), as well as the app that 's being developed along side of it.

As we announced last week, we are taking a break from the regular episodes this week after the MEGA two parter that we dropped last week. If you have not done so, please check out the Fantasy Adventure Designer Roundtable we did with a bunch of really cool folks. We will be back next week with a regular episode.

We are calling an audible! We originally intended to release Part Two of our fantasy adventure discussion one week after Part One. However, why wait? We've decided to just give you double the content for the week, instead. Because of the double content week, we are going to give you Preview Series episode next week, then get back to our regular series of episodes one week after that.
